Capt. Peterson and Parsnik the shipdog aboard the Electra. From the Electra Ross Photo Collection, SFMNHP

This week’s Curator: Bart Bernhardt of Nerd Nite SF

Find solidarity in soldering, bond over boats (and their shaggy shipmates), and commiserate about commutes! Usually over cocktails. This week has a wide range of art, science, storytelling, literary, and history programs for you to enjoy. Plus, DOGS and FASHION on BOATS, because of course that’s a thing, and it makes me very happy.

Thanks for reading The Anglerfish! Follow us on @ & FB and tell your curious-er friends to subscribe to The Anglerfish, too.

COMING UP THIS WEEK:

Salty Dogs and Haute Couture on Olde San Francisco Bay
Pets and fashion and boats are the themes of this archival photograph romp by SF Maritime National Historical Park librarian Gina Bardi. I love everything about this.
THURS, APR 4, 7-9:00PM, Corinthian Yacht Club, Tiburon, FREE.

AFTER DARK: Throwback Thursday
Happy 50th to the Exploratorium! I’m sure WordPress has a way to put a heart emoji here*, but I can’t figure it out. So I’ll just say outright that my love of nerdery was cultivated here, and I hope it inspires people for 50 years more, and beyond. For this program, the Exploratorium is looking back to when it was founded in 1969 in order to gaze into the future – from psychedelics to the space race to ARPANET.
THURS, APR 4, 6:00-10:00PM, Exploratorium, SF, $20.

*EDIT: Found it!

Accessing the Arts: Sensory Diversity and Performance
All of us behind The Anglerfish are event producers, so a discussion on best practices for accessibility for live performances is totally our speed. If you’re in the arts or events communities, this is an important conversation.
THU, APR 4, 6-8:00PM, LightHouse for the Blind, SF, FREE.

The Fire & Light Soirée and Art Auction
For 20 years, The Crucible has been a bastion of industrial arts in the Bay Area. This is their big fundraiser and features food & drink, performances, an auction, and some very cool art.
SAT, APR 6, 6-10:00PM, The Crucible, Oakland, $300.

Muni Diaries Live
Oh, Muni. There is nothing quite like it – it’s SF at its best, worst, funniest, and weirdest. Twice a year, the beloved Muni Diaries brings that to the stage for a night of hilarious and wonderful stories that could only happen on Muni.
SAT, APR 6, 6:30-8:30PM, Rickshaw Stop, SF, $16

Wildflower Walks on Mount Sutro
While the spectacular wildflower “super-blooms” have rightly been getting a lot of buzz lately, there are also wonderful wildflowers right here in our backyard. The Sutro Stewards will take you on a two-mile tour to see the “pink flowering currant, reclusive fairy bells, [and] vibrant checkerbloom” blossoming on Mount Sutro.
SUN, APR 7, 1:00-3:30PM, Sutro Native Plant Nursery, SF, Donation encouraged.

Odd Salon San Francisco: DISCOVERY
I always love co-Anglerfishian Annetta Black’s event, Odd Salon. But this week, a certain paleontology story rubbed me the wrong way, so the idea of knocking back some cocktails and hearing a talk about “Mary Anning, Unsung Princess of Paleontology” sounds particularly appealing, along with several other intriguing topics.
TUE, APR 9, 6:30-10:00PM, Public Works, SF, $15

Author Talk: Annalee Newitz and Charlie Jane Anders
Fellow Anglerfishian Annalee Newitz is also a wonderful science fiction and non-fiction writer, and was too modest to flog her own author appearances when she was last curator, so I’ll happily do it! Join Annalee and the talented Charlie Jane Anders (who also organizes Writers with Drinks, which gets a finny thumbs-up from us) for an evening of readings and talks at the SFPL.
THU, APR 11, 6-7:30PM, SFPL Main Library LGPTQIA Center, SF, FREE.
