Universal Basic Income, Is It Time?
Shaping San Francisco is one of the most vital bits of grass root going in SF. The perspective tends to be a people’s history / future whether conducted in a walking tour or a panel discussion. Their talks are recorded for time-shifted remote consumption. UBI is on a lot of smart minds right now; this event will frame it historically and offer a research overview.

Life Beyond Earth: SETI Artist In Residence program
Down south in Saratoga, it’s ARTS IN SPACE; well almost. SETI (the Search for Extraterrestrial Intelligence people) have been collaborating with artists for years. In this event an internationally acclaimed composer talks about his space-science related work-in-progress wile Mezcal and tacos are consumed. Out of this world. And I’ll be there!

Bay Area BIOBLITZ!!!
All weekend, all over the Bay Area they’ll be counting ’em down: Groups are gathering in parks, neighborhoods, around estuaries all over from Sonoma to Santa Clara, logging flora & fauna in a citizen science kinda way. It’s a global phenomenon, but the Bay Area, home to Cal Academy who created the iNaturalist app, is a hotbed. I wanna log you like an animal…

Playing Hamlet Roulette Book Release
Alas, veteran Bay Area theatrical innovator Mark Jackson drew names from Yorick’s skull; a new Hamlet instance every performance. It was so weird he wrote a book about it. The Exit Theatre’s publishing arm has given it life. This afternoon event is Free!
APR 28 – SAT: 2:30 PM Tenderloin, SF; Free
Spring Chicken – Vendor Bazaar
The folks who put on the extravagant night carnival of The Edwardian Ball, come out in the daytime for commerce! A bazaar of local, artisan, and craft vendors fills The Chapel concert space in the Mission. Admission is Free with plenty of food, booze & art stuff to buy.
APR 28 – SUN: 11 AM – 4 PM in the Mission, SF; Free admission
Cinco de Mayo: Latinos for Social Justice during the Civil War
Even if you don’t go to this California Historical Society event, you’ll learn something reading about it. Cinco De Mayo in a minor holiday in Mexico, but was celebrated here as a statement related to the US Civil War as this UCLA professor explains.

Festival: Imagining Post-Capitalism
Imagine that the future is a six-day festival in downtown Oakland imaginging the future. Shaping San Francisco is involved again, there’s a dozen plus events from lectures, films, discussions, performance and other arts: “All are invited to participate in the conversations and gatherings to push each other to think concretely and imaginatively about what is coming.” Mostly free
